Rayman Creator Adds Fuel to the Rayman Remake Fire

There have been rumours swirling around for a while now that the original 1995 classic platformer Rayman would be receiving the remake treatment sooner rather than later, and an interview that Retro Gamer Magazine carried out with series creator Michel Ancel adds further fuel to the rumour.

I think there’s a kind of remake planned. I don’t remember when specifically, but it will be in HD and I think Ubisoft is adding a few more checkpoints and things like that to make it a bit less frustrating.

The additional checkpoints will probably be on most people’s wishlist for a remaster, as the game does get very difficult in places. I just hope they don’t mess with the art style too much, as the original pixel art is gorgeous. It would need a fine touch to upgrade the quality without losing the original charm.

It would make a welcome return for Rayman, who has pretty much disappeared off the face of the earth for the last 10 years, being replaced by the Rabbids as Ubisoft’s “cartoon” characters.

What do you think? Are you excited for the Rayman series to finally return to our screens?
